Reynaldo Maya, Maya, Reynaldo (1911-Unk) - 20th Century Modern oil painting on canvas. See below for some biographical information culled from the web. These are well executed folkloric and nostalgic, of an earlier time in Mexico. A couple of articles with the artist's information below from 1947 and 2013.
"Mexican Artist’s Paintings to be shown in El Paso.
An informal exhibition of paintings by Reynaldo Maya, Mexican artist, will be held at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, at the home of R.L. Andrews at 1605 Alabama street. The exhibition will be a preview of a display of Mr. Maya’s paintings which will open next week in San Francisco. The public is invited. Mr. Andrews will leave here Friday to arrange for the exhibition at the Graves Gallery there. Mr. Andrews met Mr. Maya while vacationing in Mexico several years ago.
Mr. Maya’s paintings have been on display in Paris, Madrid and Mexico City. In Madrid Mr. Mayo was presented a silver medal and diploma for his work. Mr. Maya, 38, is the son of a sarape weaver. He was born in San Miguel Topilejo, Near Mexico City. He began painting at five, and when he was in grammar school, he illustrated lessons on the blackboard for both students and teachers. Some of the paintings to be on exhibition were completed by Mr. Maya recently in a temporary studio in Juarez. His paintings are of rural Mexico landscapes and character studies." “Thus arose three new Open Air Schools, directed by former students of Alfredo Ramos Martinez from the Coyoacan school; in Tlalpan, Francisco Diaz de Leon; in Xochimilco, Rafael Vera de Cordova, and in Villa de Guadalupe, Fermin Revueltas. It was precisely in Xochimilco that students like Reynaldo Maya emerged. Maya’s talent was recognized from a very early age and as an adult he was a teacher at the Taxco Outdoor School where he had the largest of his Production.
The art he produced was mainly collected by American visitors in Taxco, so it is more common to find his work in the United States. His style captures the light without a doubt with an impressionistic touch." Source: Moguel, Clare Bolivar “From Culture art to popular art. Outdoor painting schools.” Museo National de Arte. 2013.
